Women Should Consider Non-Traditional Opportunities
When making decisions about what to do "when they grow up," most women tend to steer away from jobs they associate with men's work: jobs like graphic artist, chemist, firefighter, electrical worker, construction worker, engineer, mechanic, machinist, truck driver, insurance agent, accountant, and public relations executive. These are among many "non-traditional jobs for women," and these are the jobs that offer men and women more money, more stability, and much better benefits packages.
Listed in this section are "non-traditional" occupations that require some post-high school training. They are listed according to the Guide for Occupational Exploration interest categories. The wage range for Northwest Rural Ohio is also listed for each occupation. Along with that information is a listing of local schools and apprenticeship programs that offer the training needed for each job.
This section of the site, which was taken from a resource manual designed by the N.E.W. S.H.O.E.S. committee, was developed to serve individuals, school counselors, employment offices, Private Industry Councils, Departments of Human Services, and any other resource women may turn to when searching for employment training information. The committee is made up of agency members from Seneca, Sandusky, Huron, Ottawa, and Erie Counties. The programs listed range from three-week truck driver training programs to four-year Bachelor Degree programs.
We hope that this information will be of help to those women making important career choices.
